Galway recorded their second successive win in the Centra Camogie Leagues on Saturday following a hard-fought 1–13 to 1–11 victory over Antrim at Robert Emmets Cushendun.

Galway, who made six changes from the side that defeated Tipperary in the Ragg the previous weekend, knew they faced a tough test against an Antrim side that had already overcome Cork earlier in the competition.

The visitors made the brighter start, with early points from Niamh Mallon and Niamh McInerney inside the opening three minutes. Antrim responded in the fifth minute when Nicole McAtamney converted a free.

Three minutes later the Saffrons struck for a goal. A long delivery evaded Katie Manning and dropped into the path of Roisin McCormack, who slipped in behind the Galway defence and finished emphatically to the net.

Galway responded well with two further points from Mallon and another from Mairead Dillon to restore their lead by the 11th minute. McAtamney added her second free two minutes later to level matters.

Galway captain Carrie Dolan then made a decisive impact, firing home a goal from a free for the Tribeswomen. Antrim refused to let the game slip away, however, and points from Cliona Griffin and McAtamney (free) cut the deficit to the minimum.

Dolan (free) and Mallon added further points before the interval, while Eobha McAllister had the final say of the half for Antrim. At the break the sides were level at 1–7 to 1–7.

Lucia McNaughton and Dolan (free) traded scores early in the second half before Shannagh Heggarty and McAtamney (free) again brought the sides level by the 37th minute.

The contest remained fiercely competitive, with both teams battling hard in a physical midfield encounter. Dolan (free) and McCormack exchanged points midway through the half, leaving everything to play for entering the final quarter.

Galway edged ahead thanks to another Dolan free and a Mallon point to open up a two-point lead with eight minutes remaining. McAllister responded for Antrim with two quick points to draw the sides level once again.

However, Galway finished the stronger. A late free from Dolan and a point from substitute Aoibheann Barry secured a 1–13 to 1–11 victory for the Tribeswomen.

The win moves Galway into second place in the league table, ahead of Kilkenny on scoring difference. They now welcome Cork next weekend in a repeat of the 2024 and 2025 All-Ireland Camogie Finals. Galway will likely need another strong performance, as Cork will arrive determined for a win after their draw with Tipperary left them in relegation danger.
