Match Day Regulations

The following Match Day Regulations apply to all Camogie competitions:

  • Number of players allowed entry to the pitch enclosure to be thirty (30).
  • Number of Officials permitted to remain in the pitch enclosure during a game is up to a maximum of 8 which includes, Club Officials, medical personnel and Maor Caman/Uisce. All Officials must wear a distinctive BIB.
  • No children (U18) allowed entry to the pitch enclosure for adult games or to act as Maor Caman/Uisce.
  • Prior to game commencing the Rúnaí/Nominated Person shall present the team sheets to the referee.
  • Where programme is available, all players must wear corresponding numbers.
  • The starting 15 players shall be identified on both copies of the team sheet.

Match Officials

  • The Referee is in overall charge of Game Regulations and shall delegate authority to his Linesmen & Sideline Official; he shall include the Sideline Official/Match Monitor’s report(s) with his match report as appropriate.
  • The Referee has the authority during the game to send any person in repeated breach of these Regulations to the stand/outside the pitch enclosure and such person cannot be replaced.

Cathaoirleach

  • Games and Ground regulations apply to all players and officials and adherence to the regulations is the responsibility of the Club Chairperson.
  • In their absence, their responsibilities will pass to the Rúnaí/Nominated Person.

The Bainisteoir

  • The Bainisteoir also shares the responsibility of ensuring the Games Regulations are respected by players and members of team management.
  • The Rúnaí or Nominated Person shall relay details of substitutions to the Official.
  • The Bainisteoir shall wear a distinctive BIB and is not permitted to enter the field of play but may move along the sideline from the 65m line to the 20m line on their selected half.
  • The Bainisteoir also shares the responsibility of ensuring the Games Regulations are respected by players and members of team management and can have their sideline privileges removed for any breaches by players and members of team management.
  • Any unauthorised incursions onto the field of play will be dealt with under Riail 44.1.2 2023.

Maor Foirne

The Maor Foirne (who must be a Selector) must wear a distinctive BIB

Selectors

  • The Selectors shall wear a distinctive BIB and is not permitted to enter the field of play but may move along the sideline from the 65m line to the 20m line on their selected half.
  • Any unauthorised incursions onto the field of play will be dealt with under Riail 44.1.2 2023.

Medics

  • Medical personnel shall be identified on the Official Team list and shall sit in the areas designated in Ground Regulations.
  • They shall wear clear identification which must not clash with the playing jerseys of either team and may only enter the field of play to attend to an injured player(s).

Riail 6. 2021

Playing gear

a) Teams are required to wear distinctive colours. In all instances all members of the same team must be uniformly dressed.

b) Playing gear must be of Irish manufacture if possible. It must consist of:

  • Skirt/skort/divided skirt, sports jersey with long or short sleeves, socks and boots.
  • Uniform socks must be worn by teams.
  • A base layer (‘skins’) may also be worn.
  • Goalkeepers may wear the team tracksuit in all competitions other than national finals.

c) The crest of An Cumann Camógaíochta must be displayed on the team jersey and skirt/skort/ divided skirt.

Penalty: If not complied with in Camogie games, the Referee will firstly caution the player/players for dissent. If the player/players continue to refuse to comply with Rule 6 as outlined above she/they will be dealt with in accordance with Rule 41.9 (b) for dissent

Riail 7.5. 2021

7.5. In all Camogie games and training sessions, it shall be mandatory for, and the responsibility of each individual player, not to wear jewellery of any kind while playing and/or training. Penalty: If not complied with in Camogie games the Referee will firstly caution the player for dissent. If the player continues to be in breach of Rule 7.5 she will be dealt with in accordance with Rule 41.9 (b) for dissent.

Riail 44.1.2 2023

44.1.2. The following mandatory penalties apply in the following circumstances:
a) Persistent dissent by a player or team official towards a Referee’s decision An automatic two match ban for the player or official in the competition that the offence took place.
b) To use abusive or threatening language, gestures or behaviour, (including but not limited to anything which could be construed as sectarian, racist or homophobic), towards a Referee, match official, unit officer, any player or team official.

  • An automatic two match ban applicable to all official competitions sanctioned by the committee in charge that the player or official is involved in. For the purposes of a match ban tournaments and challenge/friendly games are not considered official competitions.
  • The Unit which the player/official was representing in competition will be fined an amount which will be imposed by the relevant THDC under their discretion, depending on the severity of the incident noted in the referee report. The fine will increase by 50% for each subsequent guilty offence within the calendar year. The initial fine should be no less than €200.
  • Should the Transfers, Hearings and Disciplinary Sub-Committee adjudge the offence sufficiently serious, it may disqualify the offender’s team from the competition in question.

c) Punching, hitting (without a hurley) or kicking a player in a manner that the Referee deems non-accidental An automatic three match ban applicable to all official competitions sanctioned by the committee in charge that the player or official is involved in.
d) Kicking, hitting or striking of a match official by a player or team mentor or known partisan in a manner that the Referee deems non-accidental. An automatic 48 weeks suspension from all Camogie membership and activity.
e) Striking a player with a hurley in a manner that the Referee deems non-accidental. An automatic three match ban applicable to all official competitions sanctioned by the committee in charge that the player or official is involved in. In the case of a. to e. above, all penalties will carry over from one season to the next until the ban is fully served. In the case of an offence undertaken in games under Ard Chomhairle auspices, an automatic match ban refers to all official competitions (e.g. championships, league, other competitions) sanctioned by Ard Chomhairle as the Committee in Charge. In the case of an offence
undertaken in games under Provincial Council auspices, an automatic match ban refers to all official competitions (e.g. championships, league, other competitions) sanctioned by Provincial Council as the Committee in Charge. In the case of an offence undertaken in games under County Board auspices, an automatic match ban refers to all official competitions (e.g. championships, league, other competitions) sanctioned by County Board as the Committee in Charge.
