Match Report
The Galway Intermediate camogie team’s hopes of winning the Glen Dimplex All Ireland Intermediate championship were dashed on Saturday when they came up against an experienced Kerry outfit. The Kerry side were mainly made up of players from the Clanmaurice club who won the All Ireland Intermediate Club final last year. Galway did come close but the missed goal chances throughout the contest were important at the end of the game as they came up short by two points.
It was the Kerry side who started quickly out of the blocks with points from Patrice Diggin and Amy O’Sullivan. It was Diggin’s first day out after she returned to the starting 15 and her presence alone was a massive boost for the Kerry side as she has been a key player in their recent success at club and county level. Ava Bloomer got Galway’s opening score on the 2nd minute but Kerry hit back with three frees through the stick of Jackie Horgan to leave Kerry 0-5 to 0-1 in front after 8 minutes. Aoibheann Barry brought the sides to within one point by the 16th minute as she scored three points, two through frees. Horgan, who awarded with the player of the game award struck two more points, one through a free to extend Kerry’s lead by the 19th minute. Barry through a 45m free and Horgan also through a free swapped scores on the 21st and 24th minutes. But it was Galway who finished the half the strongest with two points from Barry, one through a free and another score from the Galway captain Ava Lynskey while Diggin replied with one at the end of the half for Kerry as Kerry went in 0-9 to 0-8 in front at half time.
Kerry started the second half just like they started the first with points from O’Sullivan and Horgan. Scores were very hard to come by in the second half as both defences stood strong. Three quickfire points from Chole Allen, a free from Barry and a point from Caoimhe Kelly brought the sides level with 12 minutes of normal time left on the clock. Kerry started to push on again with three unanswered points through O’Sullivan, Horgan and substitute Kate Lynch. Barry brought it back to one by the 63rd minute with a point from play and one through a free but it was Horgan who had the last say in the game as she pointed another free on the 65 th minute as Kerry ran out 0-15 to 0-13 winners on the day and they booked their spot in the Intermediate Semi Finals for their first time in their history.
Galway will be disappointed that their championship season has come to an end but they should be delighted with the progress that they have made considering they did not make the knockout stages of the championship last season. Galway had a youthful side this year as Conor Dolan is trying to use the Intermediate set up as a stepping stone for younger players on their pathway to the Senior team.

Match Report
The battle between Kerry and Galway was a tight affair with the verdict in doubt right down to the final whistle. That said, from the moment Patrice Diggin drove over a shot from 50m, Kerry were never in arrears. Galway did get to parity on a number of occasions but could never edge ahead. It often had the appearance of a personal competition between Kerry freetaker Jackie Horgan and her counterpart, Aoibheann Barry. Three points from Horgan opened a four-point gap but Barry also hit a treble to bring it back to one. Again, Horgan and Barry exchanged three points each and they were level at 0-8 apiece before Diggin nosed Kerry ahead at half-time. The Kingdom managed to put three points between them and their gritty opponents once more early in the second half but Barry was to the fore as Galway drew level. But Kerry always found another gear when required and made the critical run down the stretch, Amy O’Sullivan, Kate Lynch and Horgan splitting the posts to register a famous victory, by 0-15 to 0-13.

Match Preview
by Daragh O’Conchuir
Kerry were relegated from Division 1B on a marginally worse score difference than Down, who they drew with, but this was rarefied atmosphere, with all the opposition senior teams.
Such competition is wonderful preparation for the Championship of course and so it proved, as they edged the second seeding in Group 1 despite losing their last game of the round-robin phase to Meath by four points, when qualification was already assured. They had previously overcome Carlow and Dublin, the latter having beaten the Royals by nine points.
Galway competed well in Division 2B of the Very League, narrowly missing out on the final. An inferior score difference is all that placed them third in Group 1 of the Glen Dimplex All-Ireland Intermediate Championship rather than runner-up, so Kerry will not be thinking they have an easier hurdle to clear. Indeed, the westerners beat Group 1 runners-up Offaly by two points in a brilliant game after a loss to Clare had left them on the precipice of elimination.
