The Camogie Association announced, per Government guidance in the South of Ireland, the return to training for Adult Inter County teams only from April 19th. Underage club training, non-contact in pods of 15 is due to return from April 26th. No inter county challenge games are permitted at this time. Training Games can only be played within the county panel itself. No Adult inter county collective training is permitted in advance of this date 19th April 2021.
The Camogie Association plan to commence the Littlewoods National League from Saturday 15th May (see 2021 Fixtures), pending Government approval. At this time Ard Chomhairle have ratified the Littlewoods National League fixtures schedule only and are awaiting further Government guidance in both jurisdictions in advance of decision in relation to all other competitions.
The Minister of State for Sport Jack Chambers confirmed last week, via twitter, that teams who were previously part of National League Competitions (sometimes known as second teams) are included in the resumption of inter-county and can resume training from 19th April. This will see the return of intermediate and junior county teams from stronger counties (counties that also field a senior team) including Galway.
In October 2020, Galway was one of ten teams that were removed from the All-Ireland intermediate and junior camogie championships after the Camogie Association received direction from the Department of sport that each county can field just one team in the 2020 All-Ireland championship under coronavirus restrictions (Irish Examiner 23/10/20).
