Galway travelled to O’Toole Park, Crumlin for the second round of this year’s Electric Ireland Minor Championship. With the aid of the elements in the first half, Galway made a bright start to the game and were three points to the good after six minutes, all coming from placed balls by Mary Bridget Cosgrove. Dublin opened their account on nine minutes with a free from centre-back Ava O’Neil. However, Galway quickly regained control and responded with 1-4. Mary Bridget added three more placed balls, while Clodagh Burke struck for a crucial goal on 15 minutes. Aoife Scarry also chipped in with a fine point from play. The first half ended with Mary Bridget Cosgrove and Clodagh Glennon exchanging points from placed balls, leaving the half-time score at 1-8 to 0-2 in favour of Galway.

Dublin began the second half strongly, applying sustained pressure on the Galway goal. They outscored Galway 1-2 to 0-1 during this spell, with full forward Emma Broderick finding the net in the 39th minute. Galway’s only reply in that period was a placed ball from Mary Bridget Cosgrove, leaving the score at 1-9 to 1-4 after 40 minutes. Galway responded immediately. A powerful drive through the Dublin defence raised another green flag on 41 minutes. This was quickly followed by a point from play by Amy Kenny, stretching the lead to 2-10 to 1-4 after 45 minutes. Dublin replied with another free on 47 minutes from Clodagh Glennon. However, Galway finished strongly, with Mary Bridget Cosgrove adding 1-1 from play to seal a comprehensive 3-11 to 1-5 victory.

It was a solid outing from Galway, making it two wins from two. They now turn their attention to a home game against Cork on Sunday, 1st March.
