Venue: GAA Faithful Fields, Offaly
FT: St Cuans 4-11 Coláiste Naomh Cormac 2-5

Galway minor camogie joint captain Emma Barrett proved instrumental for St Cuan’s, finishing with 3-3 as they overcame Coláiste Naomh Cormac in Saturday’s Allianz Post Primary Schools Senior C semi-final at the Faithful Fields. It was an impressive all-round display from St Cuan’s, highlighted by a dominant defensive performance that saw them hold their opponents scoreless from play for 35 minutes, underlining their strength and work rate across the pitch.

St Cuan’s set the tone from the opening seconds and immediately showed their attacking intent. Inside 30 seconds, Emma Barrett cut through from the right and forced an excellent save from Caoimhe Spain, earning a ‘45’ which Aoife Scarry confidently converted. Clodagh Jordan added a second point after five minutes before St Cuan’s struck for the opening goal three minutes later. Michelle Quirke won Aoife
Scarry’s free and quickly fed Emma Barrett, who finished low to the net. Scarry added another free to give St Cuan’s a commanding 1-3 to 0-0 lead. Coláiste Naomh Cormac opened their account through an Emer Bracken free, but St Cuan’s continued to dominate possession and territory. Strong defending from the
opposition briefly denied Clodagh Jordan, but Aoife Scarry kept the scoreboard moving with another free. Emma Barrett came inches away from a second goal when her effort struck the butt of the post, but she made no mistake five minutes later, taking a pass from Moya Glynn and finishing clinically to the net. Barrett then added a point from play to stretch St Cuan’s advantage to ten points. Coláiste Naomh Cormac finished the half with three late frees from Emer Bracken, while Aoife Scarry replied for St Cuan’s after Emma Barrett was hauled down when bearing down on goal. Barrett added another point from play to leave St Cuan’s firmly in control at the break, leading 2-7 to 0-4.

St Cuan’s wasted no time reasserting their dominance after the restart. Just 41 seconds into the second half, Emma Barrett struck for her third goal, taking a pass from Michelle Quirke before turning, driving goalwards and finishing low to the net. Emma Dempsey quickly followed with another point to keep the momentum firmly with St Cuan’s. Coláiste Naomh Cormac’s first score from play came after 35 minutes through Isabella Gleeson, and they threatened a goal when Emer Bracken set up Kate Feighery, but determined St Cuan’s defending crowded her out. At the other end, St Cuan’s continued to create chances, with Emma Barrett denied only by an excellent Caoimhe Spain save at the post. Aoife Scarry added another pointed free to keep the scoreboard ticking over. Coláiste Naomh Cormac did find a goal when Emer Bracken followed up after her 20m free was saved to fire to the roof of the net, but St Cuan’s responded immediately. Just two minutes later, Emma Barrett caused havoc in the goalmouth and when the ball broke, Moya Glynn reacted quickest to fire to the net. St Cuan’s nearly had another when Barrett again broke through, but Spain saved well before Barrett clipped the rebound over the bar. Aoife Scarry added another free to underline St Cuan’s control. Deep into injury time, Coláiste Naomh Cormac added a late consolation goal through Aine Rigney from a 20m free, but it could not take away from a superb St Cuan’s performance as they powered into the All-Ireland final.
