Jackie Brien, Ahascragh / Caltra

It is with very great regret that news has reached us of the sudden death of Jackie Brien of Ahascragh/Caltra Camogie Club.

He was a founder member of the club over 40 years ago and assumed every club executive position over many years of active involvement. He also co-founded the North Board in the early 1990s and acted as their delegate to the county board up to 2020, including attending the county AGM, both in person and virtually, in very recent times.

He was a steward at the most recent County Senior Camogie Final in September 2020 and he was elected as one of the Vice Presidents of Galway Camogie at our last AGM. Under his management and mentorship, Galway won three All-Ireland Minor Camogie titles. He also help to organise and run many fundraisers on behalf of Galway Camogie.

Jackie served in many positions on Galway Camogie county board, as well as Connacht Camogie and Ard Comhairle of the Camogie Association, being on the National Final Appeals Committee up to last month.

Our sincerest condolences to his wife Lily and immediate family at this sad time. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.
