Davitts Camogie News, February 2023

Davitt’s Social & Medal Presentation Night. 25th Feb 2023.

A great night was had in the Lough Rea Hotel recently to honour three of Davitts recent winning County Champion Teams.
Special guest of the night was 4 Time All-Star Ann Marie Hayes and MC for the night was none other than Cyril Farrell.
Davitts new Chairperson Damian Mitchell co-ordinated the presentation of medals to these Davitts winning teams
• 2021 Minor A Champions *
• 2021 Senior B League Champions *
• 2022 Senior B Championship Champions *

A special presentation followed to the five Davitts members who were involved with current All Ireland Intermediate Champions Team Galway. Our 5 Galway players were Aisling Donnellan , Katie Anna Porter , Catherine Hanley , Ciara Hickey and Chloe Farragher. Katie Anna and Ciara have since progressed to the Galway Senior Panel and were on the team for the recent victory over Kilkenny in the Very League.

On the night Special Guest Ann Marie Hayes gave a great speech which was thoroughly enjoyed by all the girls. Words of wisdom , experience and inspiration to the girls. Ann Marie stayed with us into the late hours long after the official duties were performed.

Cyril Farrell of hurling fame resides in Woodford which is a part of the Davitts Camogie area. He would know most of the team and they him. He had received a national award from the Gaelic Writers Association in Dublin the night before. They inducted him into their Hall of Fame. He too gave an inspirational speech of his experiences. Cyril used the Wireless Microphone to his advantage and roamed over to most tables to pick out someone at random for a question and answer. It was most entertaining.

Our Chairperson Damien thanked all in attendance for their support and all who helped in any way with organising the night itself. A special thanks was given to Club Secretary Marie Craughwell and the Davitts committee and dance sub-committee members.

Tony O’Hehir was our official Photographer for the evening and captured the medal presentation highlights as well as photos of everyone on their way in to the event.

A fine meal was provided by the hotel on the night. Music was provided by the well known band “Some Craic” . This was followed by a DJ which was even more “Craic”.
All who attended enjoyed a very memorable occasion and look forward to future success in the year ahead and beyond.

The medal presentation itself was emotional for all the girls on all of the teams. Some of the girls were on all 3 winning teams and went home with 3 County Medals. They are our Stars of the past , present and future. A credit to themselves , their families and our Club.

Great Memories and all looking forward to the year ahead.
